Easter Eggs in a Story about Santa?

Oct 13, 2026 by Norman C Bowles

What would a story about Santa be without surprises for the reader? The Earth Keeper’s Quest contains a couple dozen of them for readers who enjoy solving puzzles.

For those wondering what Easter eggs are in a book: they’re intentional hidden references, placed in plain sight for readers who like to look twice.

They don’t alter the story. Not knowing them or not finding them changes nothing. They’re usually subtle — hidden in plain sight, but not easy to spot. Often they link to something outside the book: another story, another place, another meaning.

I didn’t set about trying to create hidden treats. In fact, if truth be known, the characters themselves hijacked the story line and wrote many parts of the book. Thus, if you find Easter Eggs, they are not all my doing.

I’ll offer readers a hint: most of the Easter Eggs center around names. Another hint: linguists might have the most fun. The most complex set of four Easter Eggs are the most revealing. If you find all four, you’ll understand something about the book that even most careful readers miss.

As to the final number of Easter Eggs, I don’t know. There are probably close to thirty. I’ve forgotten some, and the characters created others and may not have informed me.

If you’re a searcher getting frustrated, don’t knock yourself out. Though they’re in plain sight, they’re not easy. And if you’ve already found half a dozen, keep going — you’re on the right track.
